Get to Know Me

Get to Know Me

I have noticed that a lot of bloggers I follow have been doing a ‘Get to Know Me’ tag recently, so I thought I’d join in. It’s not until now that I’ve realised I haven’t shared too much personal shenanigans on my blog… I did have my ‘introductory’ post giving you all a little background (linked below), but here’s some dirt on me, if you’re interested that is!

This post is a bit more casual than my others, but I hope you enjoy getting to be nosey!!

Zodiac: Sagittarius – my birthday is on the 2nd of December, and I’m 20! Although I was born two weeks late, so I technically should have been a November/Scorpio baby.

Favourite colour: Right now, it has to be yellow. Hands down. It was always pink, but I’m obsessed with yellow at the moment.

Profession: Full-time MA English Literature student, part-time retail worker, part-time blogger, part-time Social Media Ambassador for The University of Edinburgh… About to be a full-time Camp Counsellor in America!

Goal for the future: To get my dream job. To travel the world. To be happily married with an amazing family and be content.

Who do I live with? With my boyfriend, in a city we both love!

Reason behind creating a blog: It was last year that I started to panic thinking about what I could do to make myself stand out to employers. But also around that time I wanted somewhere that I could share my writing, whilst reviewing books and documenting my new life in Edinburgh. A blog seemed like the best idea and I’m so glad I decided to ahead with it as I love it!

Reason behind the blog name: I knew my blog would be largely literature-based, hence ‘Reads’, but I also like the whole alliteration thing, and one day I thought of the name Rachael Reads and it just stuck. I also like the fact it sounds like a real name; almost like an alter-ego.

Bad habits: Hmmmm… Bad habits have to be going into either Primark, B&M or somewhere like that for one singular item and leaving with an empty bank account. I also have a bad habit of forgetting to text back, but I blame my memory for that one. I get easily distracted, too. Whoops. Definitely not a list for the CV.

Favourite food: Chocolate. Chinese takeaway food. Anything that’s unhealthy. Lol, I do wish I could say avocado and salad, but I’m a sucker for a treat and have a major sweet-tooth. I do try to control it, though (or do I?).

Food I hate: I can be pretty picky, unfortunately; not because I don’t like things, but because I can be extremely hesitant in trying new things. Nevertheless, one of my New Year’s Resolutions was to experiment and try more food so we’ll see how I do with that. But you’d have to pay me to eat an egg. I don’t understand how something so smelly can be enjoyable. Unless it’s in a cake.

Favourite movie: The Greatest Showman. Easiest choice ever.

Favourite TV show: Up there has to be Friends. But I do like Jane the Virgin, Married at First Sight, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and anything else with a bit of cheese to it tbh.

Favourite book: Ooo! Hard one. And perhaps controversial for a literature student/blogger to declare. This is maybe an unpopular opinion, but I loved Gone Girl when I read that. I also adore Anthony Kiedis’ autobiography, Scar Tissue (major Red Hot Chili Peppers fan). I don’t want to outrightly say my all-time favourite, but I do love a thriller.

Hardback or paperback? For decoration and prettiness? Then it’s definitely hardback. But for ease of reading or carrying around, it has to be paperback. I own more paperback for sure; they’re just easier.

Favourite YouTubers: Imogenation (Imogen Hudson) has to be my favourite. She taught me how to be confident and inspired me to start up this blog, so check her out. But I also absolutely love Nikkie Tutorials, Lydia Elise Millen, Holly Boon, Patricia Bright, My Virgin Kitchen and others like them…
